I dunno if it's a world, but yes, there sure are differences.

Had three 2500s ('10, '14, and '14) and decided to get a "practical car". Bought a '14 1500, which was the most boring car I've had in recent history.

Got a 3500 C&C for towing in '17 and haven't regretted that one bit. Then, in '21, got fed up with the 1500 and it turned into....another 1500.

This time, a much more fun car. The extra power and the beef of the drive train (seeing the latter being what made me get a TRX) did kinda make make a world of difference to me.

It sure doesn't hurt that it's far more capable than a regular 1500 at what it's intended use is - bad weather, snow, and ice. Especially after a few tweaks. But it's NOT for towing.

There's a world of difference between the 1500 and 2500 trucks. You're going from a car like experience to a more truck experience. My 1500 had the 3.92 gears with posi for towing plus the etorque and HD towing package. It was rated for 10, 800 lbs but it would never handle it.
The ride integrity is totally different 1500/2500 in 18 I moved up to a 2500...It rode like a truck...I log 130,000 plus in just 36 months with my DD ram..in 21 I went back to the 1500...It tows my 20ft enclosed pace motorcycle trailer...and 4 full size Harleys just fine and hauls 2500 lbs regularly..

Just out of curiosity, what tire pressures did you run in that '18 2500?

LT tires at 80 psi (which dealers seem to like to leave them at) ride terrible with no load, compared to a 1500's lady like 36 psi in P-rated tires.

I am concerned about the availability of V8's in 1/2tons and want to get one before they are regulated out. Seems most people who buy 1/2tons are happy with a V6. That would not be me. I need only one more truck in my life and this seems like the right time, especially since I got 5% under invoice plus $1k Dodge discount plus whatever other regular incentives available when it gets here, currently another $2k.

I only need to plow my driveway, your comment on plowing with the Snowdogg is very helpful, I will check them out, there is a dealer about 20mi from here.

The plow prep forces you into the 3.92 diff, possibly (hopefully) to avoid the probs you mentioned.

Your success with the Snowdogg has given me confidence, I hope that if SnowDogg can make a plow that works well, hopefully Fisher can also (by this time!).

I believe your Limited is the same DT as the Big Horn (i.e. non-Classic) so I hope I will have the same success as you. Thanks.

Do you keep the mount on year 'round? Do you have any noticeable loss of ground clearance?
The undercarriage mount stays on...and have never had an issue with ground clearance...I plow 5 driveways..(family)..and a 200ft...x150ft commercial lot..I don't baby...or hammer it..and it has been trouble free...

Your spot on...@ 36lbs....it rides like a Bently...the Lt's @ 75..the ride was harsh...my friend has a 20 Denali 2500...the ride is more like my 1500...but I'm a Ram guy...

Exactly. Plowing after a storm and the wife pulling 2 horses 20mi once a week for a 6mo season is all I need. I don't want to give up the comfort just for that, this is my DD when weather keeps the HC in the garage and we use it for long trips. 19 years with the Silverado 1500 and not a single prob (except for once catching a stump buried in the snow ).

If I did any serious towing or plowing I would have definitely gone with the 2500. I actually planned on a 2500 from the start, but the comfort during the 95% of regular driving won over the utility of the 5% of work.

If it was only plowing, I'd say go ahead, but it's unfortunate that you put comfort over the safety of your wife and horses.

Although, you're far from alone. Those unrealistic J2807 ratings have made many buy much less tow vehicle than they rightfully should. And the Ram salesman certainly won't say that a 1500 won't do the job safely.

Good thing my girlfriend hasn't seen this, or you'd get beyond an earful about transporting horses using 1/2-tons.

I have a 2020 RAM 1500 5.7 with 392's and tow package. I pull my #8000 enclosed tool trailer everyday. I also have a Fisher HT plow on it (HT has a trip edge) Just over 67,000 miles and the only issues I've had were cracked exhaust manifolds that the dealer replaced at no charge.

What are "392's"?
