I have gone in circles over exactly that. The last part you missed is that if I keep the old truck, why do I need a new truck! :ROFLMAO:

I figure the truck and plow is closer to $10k, maybe a bit more coming into the season. All the dealer lots are completely empty around here, truck prices are way up. A neighbor recently paid $61k for a new Toyota 4cyl truck!!!!!!!!!

The simple answer is: I'm old. I want to simplify my life and having one less truck is a part of that. I don't need any extra aggravation in my life like farting around with an extra truck to keep it running. A new truck with a new plow will last the rest of my life, hopefully with minimal aggravation, unless the plow/truck combo itself is a cause of aggravation, hence this thread. :)
I hope that the Ram transmissions have improved since the 90s. I can remember dozens of Snow Commanders sitting at the dealer needing new transmissions after a particularly heavy snow season.

Those 1500s are for sissies. You need something like this. Pure, and free of Inferior Front Suspension. DSCN1538.JPG

Annual property tax?? WTF is that?
Some states have property tax on motor vehicles, in my case $91 on the truck and $800 on the HC. At least we don't have sales tax.

Not on wages, only on dividends over a limit, something like $5k.

You doing high mountain passes with that puppy?
No, it's just for the driveway. And it's really nice not to have any berms along the sides of it.

Used to plow the snow five feet past the edge of the driveway, using the tractor with a rear blade that can be offset, but that can get a bit sketchy at times. Dumb luck that I haven't put that tractor on its side in the ditch yet.

Personally I hate to use the ROPS, more than once I forgot about it and tried to drive into the garage!

I have no real choice there, since mine has a cab. But on the positive side, there's plenty of room for it.
12-foot doors on one side, and 14-footers on the ends, vertical.

But the cab is also what makes me really not want to dump it on its side. Surely the glass door will break, and those are probably not cheap. Worse, there's no good spots to hook anything to up on top, to get it upright again.

Yeah, if mine rolls over, I just flip it back. But without a cab, I don't want to use it in a snowstorm!

While I prefer being out in the open, I am so glad I went with a cab.

When it gets to 70 degrees I can run the A/C, and obviously the heater is great in the winter. Plus, driving the tractor is one of the few times I get to listen to the radio.

Radio?!?!? LOL!

My favorite thing about the tractor and excavator is the mosquitoes suddenly all disappear when you start work, even in the swamp!

Unfortunately this is not helping my plow choice. I sent an web inquiry to Fisher a few weeks ago and never received a reply. Sent another today...

I know, I know, it sounds funny that I listen to the radio in the tractor, huh?

Well, in the 'Cat I don't really hear it because of concentrating on driving. When pulling something with the 3500 I can listen to it quite a bit, since that one isn't overly fast, but I don't drive that one often.

In the tractor the radio is a life saver, I think. Putzing around a 2.37 mph for hours on end when mowing gets boring. Except when next to the irrigation ditches, of course. Then it's like plowing the edges of the driveway.

What's even stranger is that you know that it goes exactly 2.37 mph??

Well, that's the speed it goes in 3rd gear, low range, when the PTO turns 540 rpm. Which it should be.
Knowing that it's 2.37 mph is as easy as looking at the dash.

Must be a scientific machine.
