I do want to hear things, in case there's something that doesn't sound right. Wouldn't want to mask one noise with another. Have been blessed with nearly complete quietness for so long that I'm beyond used to it.

There's a reason I don't stop at motels at night and keep driving instead. I couldn't sleep anyway, and not only because of all the noises. Nervously looking out the window every 10 minutes to check if the 3500 and trailer (plus whatever is on the trailer) is still there isn't conducive to good sleep, either.
When I sleep, screw it, I sleep. I have instructed family even if something terrible happens, save it until morning.

You are way too sensitive and need to be around more people if you cannot even stand the sound of forced air and need warm wrenches my friend. Good luck living, because sleeping seems very difficult for you.

Is eating a problem also?

I often leave the ear protection on after running the noisy tractor, grinders, etc. since it's not completely quiet here - cars drive by on the road, ravens and magpies make noises. Even more quiet is nice, I think. And I don't need a warm wrench, it just helps my hands feel better.

Sleeping is generally fine - until I wake up way too early (for whatever reason) and can't go back to sleep because the brain cell gets going at 130 mph, with plenty of thoughts that demand attention. Not all bad since I often come up with solutions that never occurred to me during normal awake hours.

What's sucky is that it means even less sleep than the normal, which is between 5-6 hours. Then, every couple of weeks or so, I make up for it by sleeping up to eight hours.

Eating isn't a problem. I almost always eat breakfast and dinner, lunch I often skip to get more done. Well, when at home that is. When on a trip I generally skip eating, for several reasons.
