Interesting take from one of the guys on the other forum:

“Awesome pics. Never seen anyone take this apart. Appears be a shaftless ECM style (Electronically Commutated Motor) pump, like a hot tub circulation pump.

Now I'm confused. No coolant is supposed to be circulating inside the body (where the electronics are) and it appears to be dry and clean. So the o-ring is doing its job preventing outside contamination (and the stray coolant) from getting INSIDE. So where is the coolant leaking from? Can somebody clear my confusion?”

Awesome point this guy makes! I’ve got to think maybe the fluid is wicking up through the threads on the 1 screw holding the assembly together. 3 other screws go through the treaded casing. Only the one goes into the body. Screws appear to have thread compound. I’ll install a new o ring and thread sealant on the screws before equal torquing.

The rivets on the front make 0 sense. Ran across those on our Challenger. My Charger does not have any, just the plastic pins
The rivets were in the edge of the wheel wells. I don’t remember, but maybe I used them when I added the Phillips Flares? It’s been a while.

Yep, that front part comes off more and is most likely where it's leaking from. Not sure how to separate the front plate, you can see it's still 2 plates in the pic

The pump halves seem to split into 1/3’s. Very little lateral movement on the shaft from side to side. I don’t know what’s within spec. O ring looks great. The mystery deepens…

So all 3 portions of pump assy. disassembled. 3 o rings to replace (still need to measure)as well as thread seal the snot out of the assembly hardware. I don’t think I’m going to add paper gaskets between plate but I will Permatex plates when I reassemble.

That’s the culprit in these last pictures you posted, replace it and you should be golden. I would not use rtv, you’ll never get it apart again!! A new oring should seal it. 👍🏻👍🏻

Is the surface of the alum etched/corroded? Kinda looks like it in the photos, let us know. I agree to avoid RTV/Permetex if possible. But it helps when you need it when you have a bad situation and hope never to have to go back into it. If you are as old as me, I wouldn't worry so much! :)
