Good summary of indexing the plugs. It’s a pain in the ass with 16 plugs, but you do what you have to do.
Did you experiment with different plugs in different holes or did you shim all of them when needed?
Also, good call out on the never seize… don’t even think about it.

Interesting on the oil holes in the head gasket. Is that change for all 6.2 or more engine's as well? Researching the RE engine it was claimed 30% more oil flow to the valve train and guess that's part of it.

I've heard anti sieze is no longer needed but I've always been afraid to leave it out. Old habits I guess.

Revision was made in 2018 for the Demon motor and gaskets 68164621AE (Right) and 68164696AE (Left) became the gasket used on all 6.2’s afterwards, change was oil orfice .062” prior and .118” afterwards. Interestingly enough they also revised the oil pump at the same time 68195993AD-001, I was told by Mopar tech line revision was increased oil volume, my guess to make up for all the extra oil now going up top through the bigger orfice’s?? So I upgraded to the newer oil pump as well.

Here’s a interesting article on using never seize on spark plug threads.

Yes, played musical plugs, no shims, bought 20 plugs NGK 2309 LFR7AIX, 4 extra as there’s always 1 or 2 that don’t line up right in any hole by the time you get to the last cylinders. Super easy on the bench, a bit more time in the car but I always do it on performance cars.

So here’s last nights doings. Recheck each and every piston to be sure rings are right side up and gaps in proper places, locks in place, rod orientation correct, install in Total Seal ring compressor set to 4.090” ID. BTW I HIGHLY recommend this ring compressor, worked EXCELLENT!!
Install 2 piston assemblies, lube bearings snd journals with Driven Assembly Gel, measure and record length of each rod bolt, put cap in place, Tq to 40 ft lbs then 90, measure stretch on each rod bolt to insure its between the .005-.006” stretch wanted by Manley. Verify stretch gauge I made from a desk lamp clamp after every rod to calibration standard I made. Check clearance between each rod set main journals, ensure oil squirters are not hitting pistons. Measure crank end play before and after all pistons are installed, measure piston rock BDC, measure Piston deck height clearance. All passed. Next step change springs, retainers, and locks in the heads to a higher RPM capable Comp Cams .630” lift kit.

'Loving the homemade stretch gauge!!

My car is a 2018 and had the upgraded oil pump, head gaskets, lifteres , etc from the factory. I confirmed this as i saved all the old parts and/or checked them when I did my build.

I only read about the RE having larger squirters and stating that's the reason why they went to a bigger pump. Never knew about the head gaskets.
Great pics and info all around. Nice job!

Long day today, just got done eating breakfast finally. About ready to come off the stand and see if I can get it up and over the front cowl without taking the hood off. It came out with the heads off, going back in with them on. I’m leaving the oil pan and pick up off for now which will save me about 8” of lift, hopefully that makes up for the heads making it a taller package. I’ll put the pick up and pan on while it’s hanging in the bay then drop it onto the mounts is the plan 🤞

It actually works better then the ARP one too!! I bought it because I was concerned my home made one wouldn’t work in the engine, that it would be too wide, but it worked better then the ARP one!! Consistent as hell and can check calibration and know exactly if the gauge moved or not made it priceless.

Don’t worry, his RX8 doesn’t have a motor, it has a timebomb. Hahaha

This was today’s happenings. Check new MMX Chromoly push rods for length and straightness. They were about all bang on length wise and perfectly straight, nice stuff. The ends have a 210 degree ball end on them which is supposedly better then offerings from others that just have a 180 tip on them. And disassemble the rocker assemblies to add the Stanky stuff. Replace the front seal in the cover with a new one, original had a gouge in it, had to be from OEM time as it was never off before. Then finally torque the new damper bolt to 229 ft lbs, that was fun, I thought for sure the bolt or the crank threads where going to let loose first and I’d be starting over from scratch, 36B59419-DCB0-4885-89E7-8FA40CFF0181.jpeg 54500C2E-E918-4C6E-8A83-13BD15793C16.jpeg D651B0A8-EB5E-42C6-915C-E8534158E0C0.jpeg E92FFB42-37CA-4500-BF24-3B60307AF452.jpeg 4FAB049C-16E0-4CCB-8AFA-E800F546D707.jpeg F5515B17-4F6B-4880-8DF3-B4C1CB4242F7.jpeg CC15A770-9662-4572-AC87-618A4C96CCBC.jpeg F9B1BA23-9A0C-4E91-9F51-65B4E7CAFF97.jpeg 3102286D-2EE6-4221-AE0A-DFC6263CF3E4.jpeg C8F829DC-5487-45BA-9F6A-1C7F3722190C.jpeg 7708DC09-C530-4AAA-8A69-BA407DBE3A1C.jpeg 01073084-3C3D-4569-924D-579669FBABED.jpeg 07C1AC8A-8D88-4C97-97AE-2A640236E0F1.jpeg 43E7908E-FAB3-4978-BEB2-DEB3DB1D29BC.jpeg 0C4C6DFB-D440-4F68-B2DA-4752E735D8EE.jpeg D3AAF382-E96E-40E2-838F-81D9E03CBA8F.jpeg

We also have the upgraded crank bolt. I'm curious have you pinned yours for safety? I've been thinking about adding it to my winter project list.

Yes I did when I did th 10% OD . In my opinion it has to be pinned if you plan on beating on it a lot .
