Don't understand the exhaust smell people are getting with catless pipes. I'm considering doing it on my HC but not if I'm going to get exhaust smell. My older musclecars (70 440 Superbee and 69 383 Roadrunner) never smell.
Can someone please explain?

Mine always has a smell. The Daytona wasn't bad in the heat but in colder weather it is noticeable at any time. Temps been in the 60's and below right now so I can't say what the Hellcat would be like if it were in the 80's

Being your car is tuned they probably took some fuel out so it isn't as bad

New personal best but it was in better DA. Went 10.82@127 1.60 60 ft. DA was 1260. If they would have ran at 10 like they planned on DA would have been around 500 and I'm sure I would have been in the 70's. My next pass had a 1.59 but the DA went up 500 ft and ran 10.87. The right lane shows more MPH for no reason. I ran a couple of 128mph but I know it was just reading higher by the rest of the time slip. Looks to be 2-3 mph more. If my 1st pass would have been in the right lane it may have shown 130.

From what I can tell, the cat deletes are not worth anything. I'm attaching two time slips. The one on the left was from 8/29. I was running the 20' Nittos compared to today where I had the 17" with M/T's. The temp was about 5 degrees cooler but the humidity was around 59% compared to 43% but the DA was about the same. I ran the same time and mph in the same lane even about the same time of day. Tomorrow temps should be close to today so the plan is to put the cats back on to do another comparison.

I was hoping for some more HP but the good news I can put the cats back on and have no smell. I did get a few compliments about how my car sounded:)

Tires moved a bunch also. This is after 3 passes. I marked the tire at the valve stem. The mark it on the right by the 4PM on the tire. See no point in balancing tires when they move like this

Cats are back on, took a little over an hour. Humidity looks to be higher today but temps will be lower

Run more pressure in the tires.
BMason was live last night and got talking about tires. He said he runs 22-24. I guess I need to try more. I have always started at 20 and went down if it didn't hook. Guess just been afraid it would spin if I had more in it so never tried. Back in the BFG days of drag radials, I knew guys running 12 psi, 15 being common so I thought I was already way above that at 20:unsure:

So made 2 passes yesterday with the cats back on. Track was busy as expected but found out what I needed to know. Temps were steady at 70 all day and so was the humidity at 70. I ran 10.98@125 at 1975 DA. Friday in the same DA ran 10.95@125. But the humidity was 30% higher Saturday so even though the DA is the same the higher humidity will slow you down.

So it safe to say at least on a stock Hellcat there is no gain with cat deletes

The issue I have heard on some modified Hellcats is they can melt the cats in which people take them off for that reason. Also if you go to E85 dealing with any exhaust smell isn't as bad

Good info .
I agree with you . On a stock hellcat things like exhaust or intake done net much at the track . You really need to tune to get the most out of them . I consider them supporting mods once you really get in there with pulleys, strokers, etc. Then there comes a point you hope to squeak out that last 0.01 .

Hmmm 20 is usually enough. I'd keep going up till it spins or stops moving

On the tires moving I did a few different things and it seems to have worked for me anyway . 1 tires did not move at all and the other moved about 1 inch and I have over 100 passes on them . And start at 19 psi cold .

I wire wheeled the bead down to the bare aluminum, then took a small punch and made dimples around each bead , then had the tire mounted dry and used high tack on the beads . I inflated them to 35 psi and let them sit for month or so before using them .

Tire pressure will vary track to track , day to day even morning to afternoon for what works best .
