I'd say it's seeping. That track has had that issue in the past. They're basically doing what they can with what they've got.
They’re working their ass’s off. There’s got to be moisture in the track. Plus condensation. They’re mopping behind almost every car. Like they’re dripping from the exhaust. Crazy.

Looked like Rachel had the fastest pass of the day with a 7.9 with the chute out at the 1000 ft. She showed all them guys how it was done! Anyone else go faster?

They are nonstop blowtorching the track. They may have a issue with moisture. F8 170 just went 9.06. That’s fastest 170 so far. The purple car that ran the 8.95 was a Hellcat.
Actually it is Mike Mulder's 2018 Demon.

You think someone would have one
When you travel that far, it doesn’t make sense to not carry a spare. There’s lots of stuff that if it breaks, you can’t fix and you’re done. But a driveshaft shouldn’t be one of them. I keep a backup in the trailer. The round trip from the west coast where Ron is coming from costs around $2000 for fuel towing a trailer. Plus the entry fee for that event! I’m betting he’ll be running today if that is what broke. I saw it on tv and it looked like a driveline failure.

I agree. I even brought a spare trans last year.

Yes, Ron broke his driveshaft. We believe it was already damaged from the wheel hop situation he was experiencing a few weeks ago at the private track rental at Bakersfield. That's where/when he ran the 8.97 and 8.96. Some other racers at the Legions event had spare driveshafts; unfortunately the Demon 170's driveshaft has larger diameter mounting flanges than the 2018 Demon. I wouldn't imagine there's a replacement available yet from Dodge.

Thank you for the info Dan. Sounds like an easy enough fix.. once there's a replacement driveshaft available.
I do hope this isn't a sign that the factory driveshaft can't hold up to the shake that apparently these cars are really, really prone to.
Sucks for Ron to drive that far and have that happen right out of the gate.

I think it’s likely the the 170’s will benefit from the same cradle and control arm replacements that the Hellcats do. Unless Dodge did something significant in that area then they’re going to need it for serious track performance. If they’re going to change the wheel/tire combinations to get it done then that might as well mean tightening up the chassis as well in the cars that are not sticking to absolute showroom stock status.

I agree with you Marc. I have seen a pic somewhere of some odd brace that the 170 has that appears to me to connect the lower control arm to the upper arm. I only saw one pic and it wasn't really clear. Otherwise, I have no idea if the cars are outfitted with some sort of cradle stabilizers or maybe stronger suspension arms.
It will be interesting to see the progression of these cars as owners modify them to leave better in general.

I hope we get to see a bunch of good runs today. :)

Probably the pic I posted. Was from dusters car because he was changing to lighter brakes

Seems like driveshaft issues have plagued these cars since 2015
