While my Ram was in the shop recently I rented a car and they gave me a Grand Cherokee with eTorque. The only difference I noted was when I first got into it I pushed the start button nothing happened. What the…? Pushed it again. Nothing. Pushed it a third time. Nothing. Then the light bulb in my head flickered. Put it into Drive and drove away. Also, there was no engine shutoff at red lights.
That lightbulb in yer head...was it an LED

Incandescent. Haven't found a conversion kit that isn't cheap Chinese crap and I'm not putting cheap Chinese crap in this head.

I have a "24" e Torque....my last truck was a "21" non e Torque...I notice NO difference...nothing...I;m not even sure what it does..
It adds substantial weight (battery+motor/alternator), complexity, and the battery WILL need to be replaced in 5-10 years at an unknown future cost.

Opposite here. I once had a philosophy:

Order exactly what you want and buy new, then keep as long as possible (20y/150kmi).

But I worry about what it will be like to maintain a 10-20y old computerized vehicle.

You wait, next will be subscription services to keep your vehicle running and you won't have a choice! How many of you "own" MS Office?!?!?

Well, to further your point--anyone who bought MS Office before they tried to shove Office 365 subscriptions down everyone's throat does actually own their copy... seems the trend crosses industries--the older stuff is easier to own free and clear. With office, they haven't added any new essential feature in well over a decade if not two. If you want to access your files across multiple devices--there are plenty of solutions to that that don't require a subscription-model word processor... (smh).

With cars--they've also not really added any new essential features in a long time so not really missing out on anything by keeping something older for longer there either.
