Face it the car business...(new/used/classic)...is filled with charlatans ..devious ..unscrupulous people...all looking to separate YOU from your money....and that's just the way it is...

Not surprised really. I've seen suspicious looking stuff going on on other on-line auction sites (like GunBuyer & eBay).
Personally would never plunk down that kind of cash on a classic car I could not see in person & drive + have professionally inspected.

Dont get me wrong...I love classic cars...but regardless the level of restoration...they are barbaric to drive compared to todays offerings...and I have no desire to lay out 6 figures for a nostalgia ride...

I've sold maybe 5 cars private sale in my life...I never misrepresented mileage..condition...vehicle history...service records..dammage...nothing..and always listed below market value...(all were pristine)...yet that didn't stop tire kickers from tryin to steal it...I wouldn't wanna sell cars for a living

I have a friend in NJ who bought a 68 GTX off the internet. Good photos and was being sold by an officer with the St. Louis police dept. Good credentials, seemed safe but money was sent, car shipped and turned out to be a POS. He was with the FBI, ended up calling the officer’s commander and got satisfaction. I don’t really know the rest of the story but never buy a big ticket item without first seeing and touching it in person

I went to Detroit 10 years ago 2 buy 2 bikes...one a private owner..the other a 2yr old (new dealer display model)..both wanted 500 deposits.(ebay purchases).I said I'm commin with cash...and a trailer...if they are what you say we have a deal...If I cant see it...I aint buyin it..

Same is true for boats, found out shortly after moving here & looking for my 1st boat that they all look good in the pics but many are a total POS. Salt water is a beotch on most of the components. Hulls are usually pretty sound & the engine can be OK but the decking, seats, cables 'look' good in pics even when totally shot.

All the boats I ever had...(3)...I always bought new

The 170 was 3000mi away, sight unseen, but it was new, 15mi, full warranty. Only problem was I found a small chip in the pass door, it did not buff out, looks like it took the clear coat off. I may attempt to apply new clear on the chip and wet sand it down. But it is very hard see/find, I didn't notice it until I did the decontamination. I may just leave it.

As far as a used car, I agree with you guys. Buying used boat unseen, I will be polite and not comment...

I sold my M6 on ebay, great platform, worked out extremely well. Guy flew in with his wife, took the shuttle bus to the station nearby, I picked them up, we called ebay to transfer the funds, he drove off happy. Great way to do it, he had the option to back out if he found a problem.
