As kids when in season to go crabbing , we would go after a beach day.
.
We only kept the big crabs and Blue claws were what we wanted the most.
My Dad would pack the live catch with some seaweed in a canvas carrier and cover it with a towel, so they couldn't get out. But they sounded like they were trying to all the way home.
Our Italian neighbor taught my mom to cook Italian meals.
One of the best was Spaghetti and crabs. It was sooooo good.
Once home, the basket would be brought into the kitchen. My mom would then take her corn tongs and grab a crab, and cut off their claws the the kitchen scissors. Next she would instantly kill them, which has to be done, so no toxins would be released into the meat.
No not by boiling them, she ripped their back shell off. Then she would break them in half and clean the guts out. Thank God!
Next she would sauté them in oil, salt pepper and garlic after that she would add her sauce. The slow-simmering sauce filled the house with a delicious aroma, building anticipation for the meal.
This was such a treat for us and was such a tastey and good dinner to eat!
