170 has smaller calipers / rotors for weight reduction and what I guess are a standard pad vs the road course oriented pad on the Hellcat. I get zero dust on my wheels on the 170. Brake performance has been great, even hauling it down at almost 150MPH at the end of the 1/4 mile.

What’s different about the 170 pads? Powerstops definitely don’t stop as good as the stock ones
Good question/observation.

It doesn't make any sense whatsoever that the highest performance model comes with "smaller standard" brakes but performs just as well and doesn't leave any dust.

I personally know a 170 owner, I'll ask him about it directly. I'll let you know what he says ...

You dont trust my real world experience? I posted pics of the brake setup in my 170 thread, they're 4 piston.

Front wheels are also 18x7 so they needed smaller brakes to clear those as well. The 170 and OG Demon were built for the drag strip, you don't need big 6 piston brakes for that. Hellcat and Redeye were built for road course (surprisingly) so they got 6 piston brakes and aggressive pads to handle that type of work.

From what I found the 4 piston are not much different then the 6 piston for weight.

It's rotor and caliper I think? Do you have numbers to compare?

I know it's cumulative, but my 170 is like 300lbs lighter than my Hellcat was, even with the rear seat delete.

Just signed up for a November tour of the Corvette assembly plant in Bowling Green, KY. Should be cool to see them being made.

Not off hand but was looking into it one time and sounded like there wasn't much weight difference which I thought was odd. You can run a 17" wheel which the 4 piston so there is that

Okay. Those pads on the 170 are Non-asbestos Organic NAO ceramic. Our other Hellcat’s are semi-metallic. Thus Speedy reports hardly any dust. Thanks for the feedback, those seem to be some special units @Speedy!.

Only place on the entire car that was not "like new" was a few scuffs under the front lower splitter. Based on how well taken care of the car was, I'm assuming some sales person at the selling dealer curbed it. Luckily it looks like GM intended these to be consumable to some degree and easy to change out.

I found a brand new replacement on FB of all places and the guy only wanted $100 shipped so I swapped out my scuffed one for this brand new one and my OCD is satisfied. Pretty easy swap, but probably 50 T15 screws lol.

I'm thinking of repairing the original to I always have a spare. I'm finding you can get good paint and 2 part clear in a spray can these days, so I may try that out as a little fall project. I've got the paint gun and compressor, but not sure the cost of paint and the cleanup are worth the effort on such a small part.

I would have left the scuffed on on. Then I wouldn't feel bad when I scuffed it!!!!

Mine doesn't have the $2600 front axle lift option. I could take it or leave it, and a lot on the forums said they'd never even used it.

It does have front cameras that automatically turn on when parking etc, so unless something nuts happens I'm unlikely to curb it myself (knock on wood).

I'm really enjoying it. Being able to pop the top off in less than 60 seconds is icing on the cake. Really fun to drive.

Even my wife does it by herself...
