I'm curious what tools you guys picked up without considering it to be something so vital?

For me, it's flush cutters. I do a lot of work with zipties, and I find myself picking up flush cutters quite often.

Or maybe a brass head hammer. Though, I've not had one for a little bit. I need to go find a new one.

Surprisingly, the one tool I find almost impossible to do without while I am getting the shop finished;

When I was running the production floor for an automation company I used to work for, my FIRST rule was that if I caught you cutting wire ties with anything other than clean flush-cut dikes, I would kill you, then I would fire you.

There's nothing much worse than having to reach deep into a piece of machinery and dragging your forearm across 15 wire ties that were cut with standard dikes, then dragging your arm BACK out and having 30 bleeding streaks across your arm...

I’ll play a legit post. I always have used the penis tool very successfully, always knew it was special.

I picked these up at one of those tables selling tools at an auto show for about nothing, years ago. They sat in the “pliers” drawer forever. But, now it is one of my favorites for pulling pins, working on my brakes, or just grabbing anything that gives me any shit while working on the car or even things around the house.

Extendible Screw grabber. Great for getting screws or bolts when you drop them in tight out of reach places.

Hard to find a good set of pliers these days without going to the top of the line. I like Knipex, but my wallet isn't what it used to be.

But you know the old saying, "Buy once, cry once. Buy the good stuff once and you won't have to buy the cheap stuff ten times."

When I was younger and did a lot of engine rebuilds, a torque wrench was a absolute must!

Alright no one is going to say it....

Everything on my car or other projects requires a damn 10mm socket. For the life of me, I need three or four spares. LOL!
