Roll bar installed on cars running under 9.50?

My understanding is that if I was to run under a 9.50 1/4 mile I would need a roll bar to run down the local drag strip. Have those of you running under 9.50 installed one? I talked to a local guy who has a chassis shop at a track day who was talking to me about making my car better at the track and we talked about it for a while. I am not in any danger of running a 9.50 any time soon but was curious
