KEEPING MY V8 GRAND CHEROKEE AND GOING TO LOOK FOR ANOTHER.

They can keep that crap. Sounds like the little thing will die if called upon to tow.

THE REDEYE GETS BETTER GAS MILEAGE WITH 800 HP.

Displacement works easier and lasts longer. These things are probably winding up like an F1 car.

It's all about BTU and BSFC.
It takes so much fuel to make a certain HP. You can't defy physics. What I find amazing is my Trackhawk gets between 14 to 16 miles per gallon and I drive hard...but my old 6.1 L Grand Cherkee SRT only got 12 miles per gallon with 300 less HP.
I myself think it's the 8 speed transmission verses the 5 speed Nag 1.

But back to the six..I myself don't understand why to ditch the V8 and go with the 6.
It must be a sales/marketing thing...

Probably gets good gas mileage if you can stay out of boost. My girlfriends mom bought a ecoboost truck a few years ago and I did drive it. 1st thing I noticed it was in boost with light throttle. She turned it back in because it was no where what the said it should get for gas mileage

Yepper,, I will stick with my Hemi. Just add 2 more gears. Throw more crap to throw off the gov. Like 1st to 3rd shifting and purchase a diode to eliminate it.

There's no real apples to apples comparison yet. It's only available in the 'L' Wagoneers so far, which are about 300 lbs heavier than the shorter versions that have V8s (and the Hurricane is about 200 lbs lighter than the Hemi too).

S.O. Hurricane also makes 28hp/64tq more than the ET 5.7 Hemi, and the H.O. Hurricane makes 39hp/55tq more than the 6.4.

So they make more power, in a larger/heavier vehicle, and still manage better EPA scores than the V8s in the lighter/shorter Wagoneers. Did anyone really think they were going to magically get 30 MPG out of a 510hp, 6400+lb living room on wheels? 😆

Having said that...I never saw any meaningful MPG benefit with my ET Hemi Ram over the standard V8 so I still don't expect there to be much difference in real world MPG between the I6 and V8s. But they're better on paper and that's all that matters when calculating fleet averages and shit. And an I6 will never sound as good as a V8.

You can't defy the laws of physics. Getting 6400 lbs moving from a dead stop takes energy. Tough to do that without being on the boost in that I6.

I agree that real-world mpg would be the same or probably even worse than the V8.

I used to do a bi-weekly 1,000-mile commute from here to CA, pulling an enclosed trailer with a 5.7 powered Ram 2500.

One trip was done with an F-150 EcoBoost. It pulled the trailer fine, but used more fuel. Quite a bit more.
Apparently there are cases where it takes more energy to perform the same job.

You got it, the ferd is less efficient than the big diesel. Amazing, huh? Got to be a reason the truckers been using big diesels to pull things around, and we have generally the same in our earth moving equipment also.

Well, if it had been a 6.7 diesel I would've understood it, but it was a 5.7 gasser that got better mileage than the Furd.

My 6.7 gets 18 + around town if I keep my foot out of it.

This article isn’t based on real world experience, it’s from an FCA advertisement.
If it gets better MPG (which this article claims it does) and it makes more power than the v8 counterparts (which it does) then it’s a win win.
With a tune it’ll pick up 100+ hp and 150tq vs the 15hp an NA motor would.

The HO version will probably take tuning pretty well. HO has forged pistons, piston oil squirters, dual fuel pumps, etc. The SO version without those fortifications probably won't survive too long with mods. Pure speculation of course. The carbon build up though...

Does it have auxiliary port injection like most new GDI?
