Anyone Watching Le Mans?

I keep checking in on it. 14+ hours left to go. I haven't watched this kind of racing for several years. I have to say, the aerodynamics of the LMP cars are not intuitive (to me, anyway). I can understand the front fenders having cutouts over the tires, but having a vertical leading edge doesn't make sense to my uninformed brain. Why not slope them down?
Toyota leading, BTW.

I've got it on, but I haven't been following it too closely. I think Toyota has won the last couple LeMans, with Porsche close behind. And I know a few years ago Toyota was dominating the whole race and broke down on the last lap giving Porsche the win. IDK anything about the combination of rules + aerodynamics.

I cant say I follow the event...but doesn't Ferrari even field a team anymore...

Sure, but not in LMP classes (fastest). There are Ferraris in the GT classes, but not sure if any of them are factory teams.

Hell, I just googled the 2020 LeMans entries and Toyota is the only auto manufacturer still running in LMP1 or LMP2. Lots of known brands in the lower GT classes. I suppose it's probably cheaper to run and at least looks like the street cars they're trying to sell.

This is the first time in many years I didn't bother to watch it, or record it..
My DVR is overflowing as it is, and I don't think it could've absorbed another 24 hours.

Big fan of Le Mans. When one of my boys was maybe 4 (maybe 5), I showed them Le Mans (the steve mcqueen film) mainly for the crash scene (thought they'd find that interesting - and they did). but they loved teh whole thing and basically became obsessed. Final, one of them told me "where is this track?" I told him. "I am going to race there. When can we go and see the track in person." So, in a way, I have to be interested in it. but on my own, I'm much more taken with the racing for a full 24 hours (like my love of things like the BBORR - want to test your car - run 125 mph for 30 minutes each way).

He sponsors a race team (sort of). Disqualified because the driver called the pits on his cell phone and they ran a part out to him by the side of the road. He installed it himself, and he got back on the track. That is not allowed under the race rules.

People forget, but when Ford won in 1966 and the next 3 years too, (67,68,69), that ended Ferrari's run. They never won Le Mans again. Not the overall. Maybe a class win in the last 20 yrs or so.

Revisionist history also speculates that Ferrari had no real competition during thier glory years. They were the only manufacturer to take endurance racing seriously. Fact...Ferrari sold consumer cars to finance racing. And they were basically broke when Ford opened up the checkbook.
